This realization ignited a series of events which eventually led us to come on staff with The Navigators at Oregon State University and to live at the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity as House Parents. What a wonderfully sovereign God we worship!Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.comBlogger23125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-33054225617009486642012-01-25T23:41:00.000-08:002012-01-25T23:49:18.845-08:00So I guess we weren't quite back . . .<div style="text-align: center;">I'm not even really sure if anyone reads this blog or even checks it too much but I'm sorry that I said we were back and then we pretty much weren't. I have started a blog about Sadie's life as a fraternity baby for her all of our family members who don't live where we do so they can see pictures of her on a semi-regular basis. That blog has taken up most of my blogging time. However, if any of you would like to check this blog out by all means feel free! It is fratbaby.blogspot.com. Otherwise we will try to be better about posting this winter. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Things have been going well here on campus. We have a great student leadership team this year which is really helping us as the number of staff we have this year is so much less than last (we went from 5 full time staff and 3 part time to 2 full time and 2 part time this year). We are doing a girls biblestudy for the girls leaders and a guys one with the guy leaders. We've also been going through the book of Mark in a biblestudy format for our larger group meeting and of course meeting one on one with students which is my (Lisa's) favorite. Especially because the girls are so great and come to our apartment so I can hang out with them and Sadie. It's the best of both worlds! </div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-70801018319871250902011-10-11T23:26:00.000-07:002011-10-12T09:05:54.117-07:00We're Back!<div><div style="text-align: center;">It was obviously a busy summer for us in the Brucker household. Little miss Sadie is now 3 1/2 months old and we are having a blast with her. She is doing great and is so much fun! School has also finally started here at Oregon State and we are so glad. Campus is alive again and it's so wonderful to see our students again!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">We have started our GreekSide Nav Night (our larger group meeting on Tuesday evenings) back up again. This term we doing a bible study format and studying the book of Mark. Stephen is speaking at more Nav Nights this year which is fun and challenging for him. It's looking like it's going to be a great year!</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPyVvWZr56h7W7GIaMxY1UfuapS0hBOF8anCi3lJvUhsLWg2w-veiMfbknEg3TGfN448TyltwAiHBDKRjqlGdNRELDXCfQnbOdnhmd3SBZh-57jnyFhQWssV9swwcZdXl34iVL9_mJnZ4/s400/046+-bw.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjunnG8geWV2Z6tfx3FSLhHa1mMiBFvvAvcuhE_lixWe8xY-etHCcTa0erD24PqG_nBqYyF8kXqhXdkLCt5SF2Wd9hGd6Y-V5cd0dKCJ15PAFhOLLfEh_ZBfdRk4QBu0h1f-Cb7KM4yXes/s400/045+-bw.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Noah's bagels graciously gives us their leftover bagels - yum!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEPsTvEGSOHehtuUf-RIenfGK6LbWKFnzes7lNyEGF1vaLCu19ZFFQomHwPTLAgSRatqMLORRJAMF5XcGFtxds13lxpnDdKwI-tpxhiil_B4IUK2BsapbwZVPNEwUWNGf5Nj9wW3FaSYQ/s1600/049+-+bw.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEPsTvEGSOHehtuUf-RIenfGK6LbWKFnzes7lNyEGF1vaLCu19ZFFQomHwPTLAgSRatqMLORRJAMF5XcGFtxds13lxpnDdKwI-tpxhiil_B4IUK2BsapbwZVPNEwUWNGf5Nj9wW3FaSYQ/s400/049+-+bw.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662490675747765442" /></a><div><div style="text-align: center;">Nicole snuggling Sadie</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-16610500929434039662011-07-16T00:10:00.000-07:002011-07-16T00:21:20.267-07:00Sadie is here!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcDKdY9W9gF14uXFtxRf-4AVub8ErM-DtR-miCXZ0uIsSfeR2SX4uRpZKg00XL0PP8si5umTvP2dM5LZziVz8drtQBFymOxoQQRumLsQiLR4rgzozCcsrdjeU5ABliYpmqnC8XRf88vRo/s1600/xDSC_3550+-+edited.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcDKdY9W9gF14uXFtxRf-4AVub8ErM-DtR-miCXZ0uIsSfeR2SX4uRpZKg00XL0PP8si5umTvP2dM5LZziVz8drtQBFymOxoQQRumLsQiLR4rgzozCcsrdjeU5ABliYpmqnC8XRf88vRo/s400/xDSC_3550+-+edited.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629846152151186194" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><b>Sadie Maren Brucker</b> </span></span>arrived on June 25th at 11:14am! We have been pleasantly surprised by all of the students interested in participating and our first night we had around 20 students and last night 25! We also have 3 students who weren't able to come on Tuesday nights but are doing it one on one with a staff member. It's been great so far and we are excited to see what God does through this team of students. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>One of the assignments we have given these students is to read a portion of the Jesus Storybook Bible (pictured above) each day as a daily devotion. It is a great children's Bible that gives a big picture view of the Bible as a whole and at the end of each story in the Old Testament the author mentions something about the One who is yet to come. As it says in the introduction, "Every story whispers His name". We weren't quite sure how the students would respond to us having them read a children's Bible (would they think it too cheesy or beneath them?) but they are absolutely LOVING it! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>This Bible has been floating around the fraternities and sororities here and really creating opportunities for discussion. One student was able to share the gospel with his roommate after his roommate picked up the bible and was asking questions. Another girl left her room for a while and came back and her roommate had read 100 pages and was asking lots of really great questions about God. We have been surprised and excited to see the ways God is working unexpectedly! We can only get excited thinking about what will happen in the next couple of weeks. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-21668731855417954832011-04-25T16:32:00.000-07:002011-04-25T19:41:29.388-07:00He is the Passover Lamb<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><u><br /></u></span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysgawLC2Awf1HGYevuEmubQoMS0OqKLJ4hWlbsTBSY4Wz_Gz-MUBLxpMk4RyQl5Ciyqnayz2-yaT2bLR9DEQiT7wO8vmFBAKvlhyphenhyphenvlPkq6aIf0rG-BKv5EAlpgZLIZkUakCXNm5cbs-E/s320/IMGP0987.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599672207621516498" /><br />This past Tuesday evening we had our weekly gathering at our Campus Director's home and had a Passover Seder Celebration. We have done this in the past with our couples group from church and really enjoyed it. It is so powerful to see how the Exodus story and the passing over of the oldest Israelite firstborn points directly to Jesus. He is our passover Lamb and because of what He did for us we are passed over for the death sentence we deserve. So amazing. It is also a neat way to recognize the Jewish roots of Christianity and participate in a celebration that Jesus did 2,000 years ago. Most of our students had never even heard of a Passover Seder before so it was a new experience for all! We had some interesting mishaps with horseradish (some people got a little zealous with the amount they put on their Matzah bread - it's hot!) but overall I think it was a great way to remember what Jesus did for us and that this was God's plan all along.<div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-ASRqzaj4czH7vc58dx-Sli4TknVkX63aOALcP6sElYKvXIhEXfAY4di-XuJyvhNOXc_zvThx1cWlQkz3BMb8hjZ16wD4FmBLrfJNQS2gQqukQfS6sRT2cfmsOaDEx1-ygJ8a10Uquto/s320/IMGP0993.JPG" /> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span> </div><div style="text-align: center;"> We had about 25 students all gathered in the living room.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Also this weekend, we were able to celebrate Easter with my family in Portland. Every night we all had dinner together and had a question of the day such as "what is one thing you want to have done before you die". It was a great time of just being relational and having fellowship with one another. </span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" >Early Friday morning Stephen and I left and drove 7.5 hours up to Spokane because his mom's friends were throwing me a baby shower! The drive didn't end up being too bad and I'm very thankful we were able to do it now at 27 weeks rather than later on in my pregnancy. I know I'm only going to get more uncomfortable as time goes on! Here are some pics from the gorgeous and fun shower. The girls come from a variety of spiritual backgrounds but they all seem game for reading the bible and talking about it a bit. Morgan and I were super encouraged. The biggest praise of all is that somehow we were all able to agree on meeting next term on Tuesday nights from 6-7, Wow I could hardly believe it! But I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised because God is good and answers our prayers! <div><br /></div><div>Stephen is beginning an investigative bible discussion with several freshman guys tonight also so we are excited to see how that will go and what God will do! We are enjoying doing ministry together so much and feel so blessed to be able to share in this work together! </div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-46231472599039112032011-03-03T13:14:00.000-08:002011-03-03T16:29:26.076-08:0020 girls said yes! This past Monday Morgan and I had the opportunity to do a survey at one of the sororities here on campus. I have been meeting with two of the girls in this sorority who are Christians and they had expressed the desire to possibly start a bible study in their house. I have been encouraged to see their hearts for their sorority sisters to know Christ. We decided to do a very short survey to see who might even be interested. <div><br /></div><div>basically the survey asks three questions: </div><div>1. What's your spiritual background if any?</div><div>2. How would you describe your faith currently? (not interested, curious, enthusiastic) </div><div>3. Would you be interested in participating in a bible study or investigative bible discussion in your house?</div><div><br /></div><div>We had 20 girls fill out the survey and say they would be interested in a bible study! I wasn't really aware of this since this is the first time I had done a survey in a house, but this is one of the biggest responses the Navigators have ever had to a survey at a sorority or fraternity before! Wow! Also, a few staff women surveyed this same house a couple of years ago and not a single person responded. God must be doing something in this house! We are now working on setting up a time to get these women together and we will hopefully begin the investigative bible discussion next term. We are excited and encouraged by what God is doing! </div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-4374251844073072962011-02-08T13:11:00.001-08:002011-02-08T15:43:00.980-08:00Baby B is a . . .<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmEB3KHR1p3yMv_kB5EBYzBEYxSOWSkiuXk6mzet9fOsS84OWO34eqLKW2fDx_SeuOLUzQxomk2CjBe1Ss-jga2Cd33wc76aaXV6lHjXL7JK_-G_1rl5IuP42P-4cyHju5DoDfnp9yAKo/s1600/BRUCKERLISA20110131145737729.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmEB3KHR1p3yMv_kB5EBYzBEYxSOWSkiuXk6mzet9fOsS84OWO34eqLKW2fDx_SeuOLUzQxomk2CjBe1Ss-jga2Cd33wc76aaXV6lHjXL7JK_-G_1rl5IuP42P-4cyHju5DoDfnp9yAKo/s320/BRUCKERLISA20110131145737729.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571468043922779794" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp1eu5oELWntuwH_bMhIXTpvOBq-vKsxx2QAlNxFbZvxpBVXb_CkPlYaMiKTABSkP9rUJtiI_fbetwXuD7S7wTg856H-ROsYsI1-WBCnzndXBYgPxTaRii2BJ8CM5gyXh4g1sO0FZxh4g/s320/BRUCKERLISA20110131144743134.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div>GIRL! Last week we had our 20 week ultrasound and found out that our baby is a girl! We are both very happy and glad to find out that everything looks great with her growth. It was super fun to see her on the ultrasound screen and we even got to get a 4D ultrasound which was a special treat, although she kept trying to hide her face behind my placenta! Hmm uncooperative already . . . : ) It's so fun to be able to call her a "her" instead of "it". The cook here at the Sig Ep house is excited too cause now us girls are really invading the fraternity! After prayer and discussion we have decided to stay here in the fraternity next year and so the guys will have to get used to one more girl around. <div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-25220036613395272042011-02-02T19:32:00.000-08:002011-02-02T19:46:48.753-08:00Ignite Conference and 1/2 way through Winter Term!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSP4Zq-8JAAmGkImHDs5uRDWxZNUTrVJQGhzfLHoKl5b8tBZ3eKMcsVc3NDgRgEdU69fKN6IRVi75Y4dk0NKctHqOsNTYNcxv3LMob6yLaid2rLveI2PrmU-WQMQ-O5j9rXFs5-QQafpI/s1600/ignite+whole+group.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSP4Zq-8JAAmGkImHDs5uRDWxZNUTrVJQGhzfLHoKl5b8tBZ3eKMcsVc3NDgRgEdU69fKN6IRVi75Y4dk0NKctHqOsNTYNcxv3LMob6yLaid2rLveI2PrmU-WQMQ-O5j9rXFs5-QQafpI/s320/ignite+whole+group.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569301534838311090" /></a>Two weekends ago, January 21-23rd we took 16 students to our annual Winter Navigators Conference in Portland. It was at the Double Tree Hotel near Lloyd Center. We had a great speaker and lots of great interaction with students. Stephen and I decided to stay with students so that we could take advantage of the time there and we were so glad we did. We figured this might be one of the last times we are able to do this before Baby B comes along! The conference was a really great start to Winter term. Now we are praying about which students to invest in with discipleship relationships. We are also both in the process of starting investigative bible discussions with students. Stephen in one of the fraternities with freshman and Lisa in one of the sororities. It is exciting to see the doors God is opening up for us!Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-40980084174477517662011-01-12T12:13:00.001-08:002011-01-12T12:18:37.361-08:00Good News!On Monday during their chapter meeting/National Championship football game watching party, the fraternity voted on if they wanted us to stay with the baby next year. It was pretty much a unanimous yes! We are excited that they want us back and for this adventure we will <b>all</b> have together next year. : ) Stephen and I are quite sure we will decide to stay next year, we just need to work through some of the details as we prepare for little B's arrival.Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-6751442498297258622011-01-12T12:04:00.001-08:002011-01-12T12:12:15.119-08:00How cute are these?!!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijjtaO6HWQPbKFrlQ_NQVncF2_YRT_8RLChp7UdKlTf0m4JG2km3NQBMn2e9eSYhESFRhmKKB7sFzlvvbvTX-MubNId4DToKtI2IYDYRBzHMa58IvtHRCXksS88wFZmGmwtthpfJJPVZ8/s1600/Winter+2010-2011+024.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijjtaO6HWQPbKFrlQ_NQVncF2_YRT_8RLChp7UdKlTf0m4JG2km3NQBMn2e9eSYhESFRhmKKB7sFzlvvbvTX-MubNId4DToKtI2IYDYRBzHMa58IvtHRCXksS88wFZmGmwtthpfJJPVZ8/s320/Winter+2010-2011+024.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561394059910524706" /></a>Last week we arrived back on campus and Winter Term began! We started up our Tuesday evening GreekSide NavNight meeting Jan. 4th and Bible Studies began last week as well. It's a little strange to have had such a long break but we feel like we are picking up right back where we left off. We are excited for this term. One of the girls I have been meeting with weekly crocheted these adorable booties for our baby over her Christmas break. Aren't they just so adorable? She is so sweet! We feel very loved. : ) We can't wait to find out if a little boy or girl will be wearing these! We have spent the past week with all of the members of EDGE Corps (I think close to 120 people in all) from Campuses all around the country. We got to hear some great devotionals from some amazing Navigator staff men and women including Jerry Bridges. We also had sessions on team building, missions, fundraising and a New Testament Survey. For fun we got to tour around Manitou Springs and participated in a Murder Mystery Dinner and our team won! It was so wonderful to see friends from last summer and meet new people as well. The stories of what God has been doing on Campuses all over this country and in the lives of all of the EDGE Corps members is just amazing. The weekend before this last weekend we went to a retreat at Camp of the Cascades in Yelm, Washington put on by the Murdoch foundation. In June we found out that for this year we have received a grant from the Murdoch foundation which helped with some of our funding - what a blessing! All ministry interns who received a grant were to attend this retreat as part of the deal. There were probably over 100 different interns from different ministries in attendance. It was wonderful to hear more about the Murdoch foundation throughout the weekend and to think more about the vision and call God has placed on our hearts. Over and over we kept coming back to the idea that wherever we are, whether in full time ministry or not our call is to advance the gospel and that is certainly what we are praying for here at OSU.</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifl1XIvYto3xO91zDVRhyATMs5DyLTWqJtzNe-z-qOM1XdxeyulMseMiOizrfc7hOSgHhp94KvQ99S4sAQI5Ye5qMVw1hRDwzRFQ2exdHwlzqtO-X0kvjVq3fRIFPOAaWmlLW88iAnJiY/s1600/corvallis+002.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifl1XIvYto3xO91zDVRhyATMs5DyLTWqJtzNe-z-qOM1XdxeyulMseMiOizrfc7hOSgHhp94KvQ99S4sAQI5Ye5qMVw1hRDwzRFQ2exdHwlzqtO-X0kvjVq3fRIFPOAaWmlLW88iAnJiY/s320/corvallis+002.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529868603098790002" border="0" /></a> <span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-family: verdana;">Stephen, Lisa, Morgan, David, Wendy, Keith </span></span><br /></div><br />Another big perk of the weekend was that we got to spend time with the two other EDGE Corps members doing ministry here in the Northwest, Wendy from UW and David from U of O. It was great to get to know them and hear what God is doing on their campuses. Stephen and I were also excited to see Jim Eney (a long time family friend and the person who married us!)and my little brother Kevin who is on Student Staff with Young Life and received a Murdoch Grant as well. We had such a great time seeing those close to us and also meeting a ton of new people who are doing God's work all over the Northwest. How cool is it that God is using so many people in such different and unique ways to advance His Kingdom? Stephen was able to do some of the recruitment events with the guys which was fun. The week culminated on Sunday morning with an event called Jump. Each new recruit would come out of the Memorial Union building when their name was called and then literally jump onto the fraternity they chose to join. It was really fun to watch the whole process and see the new guys joining the house.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNS2bMti3H_TAKFGGHZwW9cQ0CnkWEdJXD8H4qmzDf6Q8qwWxaIAAqRW9aJrNM7n7hjgiOSYepDlJMbuRcMxcULnJKUeHSMTzcDnijQxaFQ_zzDsOVe4Da0hw9S5y8LMAEqAz1JcE2J9w/s1600/fall+2010+015.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNS2bMti3H_TAKFGGHZwW9cQ0CnkWEdJXD8H4qmzDf6Q8qwWxaIAAqRW9aJrNM7n7hjgiOSYepDlJMbuRcMxcULnJKUeHSMTzcDnijQxaFQ_zzDsOVe4Da0hw9S5y8LMAEqAz1JcE2J9w/s320/fall+2010+015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525496092625640562" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPyXpmlcQKpt5gxQD0iPW_5FIDv_t12yzObOp31s-jtqClzWPg576dIUnx608ir04GIRbzAYn8efDPkZSuRVdVuJy5cgJq2TmE9wtsg91FnRBr6s0j39rY2mGZH8zcWjeyM7aKlF3OseU/s1600/fall+2010+016.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPyXpmlcQKpt5gxQD0iPW_5FIDv_t12yzObOp31s-jtqClzWPg576dIUnx608ir04GIRbzAYn8efDPkZSuRVdVuJy5cgJq2TmE9wtsg91FnRBr6s0j39rY2mGZH8zcWjeyM7aKlF3OseU/s320/fall+2010+016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525496477830521570" /></a><br /><br />This week was another great week for us. We had an awesome Greekside Navnight again this Tuesday evening and talked about worldviews. Morgan and I made 5 pies for the event and we had about 30 people again. This week we had many more guys there as it is sorority recruitment this week and last week we had more girls because of fraternity recruitment so who knows how many we will have next week! I'm making the dessert next week so I have to think of something good to make for lots of people (any ideas?)! There are a fair amount of students coming to Greekside from other faith backgrounds (Muslim, Hindu etc) so we are excited to see what God will do. <br /><br />We also started bible studies this week and we have about 8-10 students each in four different bible studies. We are excited to see how God will use these studies to grow these students in their relationship with Christ.Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-50118656512454894392010-09-30T17:49:00.000-07:002010-09-30T18:36:09.515-07:00Beginnings<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir0pFlKfmId103umyOe3mhWjYRX5ktwBVzTqvZK33djgjKOc7T5xvKJQ9XQ3OOs7ACzs9JjyuiisYeSH0mYGhamYJU3Zpy4whluTjAKneCY6daZIKJLc9sVCHfWZi4BRXT3502qt0XN6o/s1600/100_6122-1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir0pFlKfmId103umyOe3mhWjYRX5ktwBVzTqvZK33djgjKOc7T5xvKJQ9XQ3OOs7ACzs9JjyuiisYeSH0mYGhamYJU3Zpy4whluTjAKneCY6daZIKJLc9sVCHfWZi4BRXT3502qt0XN6o/s320/100_6122-1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522873935941996018" /></a><br /> The staff team: us, The Pepsnys, Morgan, and The Winders<br /> <br />This Monday the 27th classes finally began here at OSU. It was so wonderful to walk on campus and around Greek Row and see so many students everywhere! We feel like our part in the ministry here can really begin now. We had our first Greekside Nav night last night and about 30 students came for the dessert and discussion. It went really well and it was great to reconnect with students we have already met and to meet a whole bunch of new ones. This term we are looking at most of the world's major religions and comparing them to Christianity. Last night we began with an overview of the series and the passage of scripture that goes along with the series which is:<br /><br />Colossians 2: 6-8<br />"Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ."<br /><br />The staff team all decided that this verse fit the vision for this series because it touches on being rooted and established in your Christian faith so that you will know how to share Him with others and also so that you will not be deceived by other philosophies in the world. By sharing information about some of the world's religions we are hoping to equip students with knowledge so that they are aware of what many people around them think and are able to enter into discussion intelligently. <br /><br />We are also beginning bible studies next week. We will have 4 bible studies going on each week with students from different fraternities and sororities meeting together and even some non-Greek students as well. It should be a great term and we are excited to see what God does through these next 10 weeks and the whole year!Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-20605809312582629332010-09-25T14:12:00.000-07:002010-09-30T18:30:43.291-07:00Settling In<span style="font-family: lucida grande;">Well we are finally settling in and getting used to living in Corvallis. Two weekends ago my parents came down to Corvallis and we were all able to go to the OSU football game against Louisville. It was really nice to see my parents and go to our first Beaver game which OSU won! </span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPdjZ6uhTT_PHDQEtYWhFFTlz_uG-IwuBcw-5ypCi3xfgS6Or812uJCgNM7_Tb0-66HERyKv0a5d3bhu_tfLLHwg-MWubC3UgBlIk1clTtCLSSbuii6w7i1_DJzXIlpD2uZNwfO4zu9jg/s1600/Corvallis+039.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPdjZ6uhTT_PHDQEtYWhFFTlz_uG-IwuBcw-5ypCi3xfgS6Or812uJCgNM7_Tb0-66HERyKv0a5d3bhu_tfLLHwg-MWubC3UgBlIk1clTtCLSSbuii6w7i1_DJzXIlpD2uZNwfO4zu9jg/s320/Corvallis+039.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522822976608877890" border="0" /></a><span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">(Thanks Life Group for the OSU t-shirts!)</span><br /></div><br /><span style="font-family: lucida grande;">Then this past weekend we were able to go to a beach house near Newport Beach with the married couples life group from Mosaic that we led last year. It was so much fun to see everyone again and hear about how God has been working throughout the summer. We've passed the group off to our good friends and we are excited to see how God will use them and their leadership in the group this year. We had fun playing cards, watching football and going shopping at the outlets (only the girls of course!). It was such a blessing to be around good friends and people that have known us for a long time. As much fun as it is to be in a new town and meeting so many great new people, there is something to be said for being around people who truly know you. It was wonderful! </span>Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-17243178003401938422010-09-17T21:45:00.000-07:002010-09-27T22:56:58.611-07:00Officially in CorvallisLast Wednesday Sept. 8th we officially moved to Corvallis and into the apartment at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house. We did the move and unpacked everything all in one day. We were pretty proud of ourselves (it may have something to do with the fact that we've moved every year since college so 5 times and counting!). We left the next day to go back up to Portland for the Laborers Retreat (basically a retreat for student leaders) which was great. It was our first interaction with many of these students and we loved it! We felt like we fit in well and are looking forward to getting to know the students as well as staff better this year. The students should arrive sometime in the next week and classes start the 27th - then things will really begin and we can't wait!<br /><br />We are really enjoying getting to know the guys in the fraternity and they are all treating us very well. We think we definitely lucked out with the best house! Here is a tour of our little but perfectly adequate apartment:<br /><br />The Kitchen . . . which we don't plan on using much. I guess I will learn to cook someday? : )<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5qIbl_8u4wS6j7IsBrcYJ4R3PRwaxaFHY7kr9ea5mGfecz7cg1on_bv1Xo-nbwA7lFIDlJcouKrJuVAUirCpoDfV79LY-oApcGW0qe5gPY9TrYccGQpL7Vv6EIOzCAi5dI0bvlxS1i1g/s1600/IMG_0524.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5qIbl_8u4wS6j7IsBrcYJ4R3PRwaxaFHY7kr9ea5mGfecz7cg1on_bv1Xo-nbwA7lFIDlJcouKrJuVAUirCpoDfV79LY-oApcGW0qe5gPY9TrYccGQpL7Vv6EIOzCAi5dI0bvlxS1i1g/s320/IMG_0524.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518113264283264418" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSap13sg24QeDMKCzHG_1_OXmjnCWxORJRZ6h2T4qaq9UAmOf9DEPtwkfvxY8a-pqFx4iqWF0uPlVAPt1BQXZznyAJpiC2i3xWLUTV6mKEBxkga8oqygoI7cu9v6zXiaUKWhJAO3UTxKw/s1600/IMG_0525.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSap13sg24QeDMKCzHG_1_OXmjnCWxORJRZ6h2T4qaq9UAmOf9DEPtwkfvxY8a-pqFx4iqWF0uPlVAPt1BQXZznyAJpiC2i3xWLUTV6mKEBxkga8oqygoI7cu9v6zXiaUKWhJAO3UTxKw/s320/IMG_0525.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518113164860358562" border="0" /></a><br />The living room . . . <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF227JWjUkWM2-Oyel2R9NBYUeZguxRQXxIZVW-SOqI9bdTOXhOVi5oKc-NX_kzmjT7zMWF2VgRMOk__UGWhSk8-hS3QIICBslp7-MrgmKaHPLMIR7COOE2-lliTVI2BRfsowrXpl6_Jo/s1600/IMG_0529.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF227JWjUkWM2-Oyel2R9NBYUeZguxRQXxIZVW-SOqI9bdTOXhOVi5oKc-NX_kzmjT7zMWF2VgRMOk__UGWhSk8-hS3QIICBslp7-MrgmKaHPLMIR7COOE2-lliTVI2BRfsowrXpl6_Jo/s320/IMG_0529.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518112464208650530" border="0" /></a>Living room view from the kitchen . . . the door in the back goes to our bedroom.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3_shqmoZZ7ur7msI-j_SfEVh8G_86CgU1wzfG139vpLMb-V6WNWXBET9hOi2xtDVxFOBMcZohuDuvxQ660gNwoEj9-v_kBwYljh-CZbG_QO38XFcURv0viHxDi8fvmi2IgkTwOupIRkA/s1600/IMG_0533.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 180px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3_shqmoZZ7ur7msI-j_SfEVh8G_86CgU1wzfG139vpLMb-V6WNWXBET9hOi2xtDVxFOBMcZohuDuvxQ660gNwoEj9-v_kBwYljh-CZbG_QO38XFcURv0viHxDi8fvmi2IgkTwOupIRkA/s320/IMG_0533.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518112946385898370" border="0" /></a>This table is right in front of the door that goes into the fraternity living room. About a week prior to painting and cleaning our apartment at the fraternity, Lisa informed me that I was ‘terrible’ at painting, which in the moment hurt my feelings, but in hindsight she was quite prophetic; I am a terrible painter. Fortunately, we had reinforcements as Keith, the director of Navs at OSU helped us paint in the morning and our amazing friends, Steve and Megan spent the afternoon and night cleaning and painting with us. Though it was all quite tedious (we spent 12 hours in all!), the day was cluttered with laughter and wonderful conversations.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir85OYbsG3wYEQkz2IngiZNxnG9eXMevRJ3UmbiC9O55y9RDSRtoPsqodBAevoyWRdV4m91OBi4pc0wXw6_VXYpUKsYkBSu-NgRQ4R60YdeIEfAfIGgj4_g77f8XpXcMEUUavZFrHrgGA/s1600/Summer+2010+312.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir85OYbsG3wYEQkz2IngiZNxnG9eXMevRJ3UmbiC9O55y9RDSRtoPsqodBAevoyWRdV4m91OBi4pc0wXw6_VXYpUKsYkBSu-NgRQ4R60YdeIEfAfIGgj4_g77f8XpXcMEUUavZFrHrgGA/s320/Summer+2010+312.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511429286656708066" border="0" /></a>This is the living room before (ugly couch and recliner left by the previous house dad) . . . <br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikP000FGPUZRMqz_EzVSR1kPzAaELcmwtkkUEuBlS7GoQLmMVXQpuWbWFnxlYwGb25uz1iobKRYVWU0ZcYMx43vrGCiX8H9HYS1Q6-NIDKjYUMmxOOgvs5qLlhhXfrWDKCDhL0BYu0XnM/s1600/Summer+2010+332.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikP000FGPUZRMqz_EzVSR1kPzAaELcmwtkkUEuBlS7GoQLmMVXQpuWbWFnxlYwGb25uz1iobKRYVWU0ZcYMx43vrGCiX8H9HYS1Q6-NIDKjYUMmxOOgvs5qLlhhXfrWDKCDhL0BYu0XnM/s320/Summer+2010+332.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511429876668514610" border="0" /></a>The living room after. It seems like yesterday we were merely dreaming of ministering to college students at Oregon State and yet, with August here, we are reminded once again of the immanency of moving to Corvallis. We will be leaving behind friends, family, our church and the normalcy of life in Portland over the past 4 years. There is a great sense of nostalgia when it comes to moving, as Portland for us has been the context in which God has matured us, inspired us, and called us to Oregon State. Thus, we soon leave, singing a song of joyful lament, that though filled with great anticipation for the upcoming year, we are also filled with a deepening sense that we will be leaving very meaningful relationships behind. But we go, not fleeing to greener pastures, but clinging to the commission, which Christ has promised He will fulfill, through men and women who preach Christ, and Him crucified, to those aware and unaware of their need. We go, knowing uncomfortable times await us, because students at OSU need to know of the transformational work of Christ.Stephen, Lisa and Sadiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10221124285536158655noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-107151942714948180.post-67832757341008266192010-07-19T23:27:00.001-07:002010-07-19T23:27:58.800-07:00First PostTrying this out.
